Fibre Optics

Why Fibre Optics?

Fibre Optic cabling provides a far greater bandwidth than copper and is traditionally used for backbone connection between localised networking equipment, becoming the preferred choice for high quality and reliable communications.

Although sometimes prohibitive for desktop applications due to cost, fibre optic cabling provides highly secure links, with immunity from electromagnetic interference (EMI). It is also the solution for inter-building links and other connections beyond the usual constraints seen with structured cabling systems.

Fusion splicing

Fibre splicing work is carried out using the various high technology fusion splicers which can be used for all types of splicing (Multimode & Singlemode), in almost any environment, internal and external.

Fusion splicing is an alternative to the direct termination of optical fibres is to splice on pre-connectorised pigtails.  If performed correctly it will provide the lowest loss when compared to other splicing methods.

Blown fibre

Blown fibre is a great way of future-proofing your installation for increasing bandwidth needs. The ground works to install the network only have to be put in place once, and can be expanded later where needed by blowing more fibres, or blowing the old fibre out and new fibres in.

All fibre installations are tailored to individual’s network requirements, with expansion and future proofing built in to the overall design.

Termination & testing service

Our Fibre Optic termination and testing service is offered to corporate end users as well as other communication providers who prefer to use our skilled services rather than invest in expensive test equipment and costly engineer training.

Both methods of termination are offered either direct termination or fusion splicing of pre manufactured pigtail assemblies.

FIA Fibreoptic Industry Association Logo bp communications

BP Communications Ltd is a Corporate Member of the Fibreoptic Industry Association (FIA) and carries out the installation, testing & maintenance of Fibre Optic systems including

  • Fusion Splicing
  • Termination of multimode & singlemode fibre cables
  • Internal & external work
  • Fault finding and repair work

All types of fibre optic cabling systems are offered, both internal and external, including:

Singlemode (OS1 & OS2)

For long distance/high bandwidth applications

Multimode (OM1, OM2, OM3, OM4 & OM5)

Although not offering adequate bandwidth for modern systems, OM1 is still utilised widely in legacy systems and the Company still fully supports it.  However, with current 10G installations and future 40G networks, it is important your networks are future proofed incorporating new generation fibre types such as OM3/OM4/OM5.
